Death Doula

Who are Death Doulas?

Who are Death Doulas? A death doula is a person who stays with you when words and strength begin to run out. Our role is not about treatment - it is about warmth and steadiness: calm presence, clear orientation, gentle conversations, and respect for your choices. A death doula is there for any kind of loss and any form of grief - including grief for the life that can no longer be lived.

What Death Doulas Do Not Do?

Death doulas do not provide medical treatment or make diagnoses.
They are not doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, or psychotherapists.

A death doula does not replace hospice, emergency services, or palliative care.
All medical decisions belong to medical professionals.

Death doulas do not impose beliefs or worldviews.
Every death doula works under a strict ethical code and is required to respect the family’s faith, culture, and traditions.

What a Death Doula Does

A death doula stays with people in times of loss, grief, and at the end of life.
This is non-medical support: calm presence, clear words about what is happening, helping families understand roles and next steps, preparing for conversations with doctors, and guiding people through hospice, palliative care, and social services.

A death doula also helps honour a person’s wishes and gently supports families in creating meaningful ways to say goodbye and remember - in the form that feels right for them.

When to Reach Out to a Death Doula?

You may want to contact a death doula if:

-you are grieving a loss (the death of someone close, a separation or divorce, the loss of an important relationship, the loss of something meaningful, or the death of a beloved pet)

-someone close to you is nearing the end of life and you are facing many difficult or confusing decisions

-you are exhausted from caregiving and need support, clarity, and space to rest

A death doula brings presence, clarity, and gentle order into human moments - even in places where there is usually only silence.
